  1. Beats colors and filters

Enable making beats a certain color so you can visually arrange them, either by beats that are completed/need fixing or by plotline.

This way I can make some green beats for Plotline A and red beats for Plotline B, then drag them around to make a coherent story while still being aware which beats belong to which plotline.

Filtering by color would then allow me to easily focus only on scenes that need fixing or scenes from a certain plotline.

    • Add personality test like Myers-Briggs for you to take for your characters

Seth mentioned this feature as something that might be added, where there's personality tests and you can get clued into how characters might interact. It was what made me really exited abut storyshop.

Thanks for putting this back on the radar, Thomas!

Our feature for tracking character relationships is already well underway, and the idea for personality tests was originally inspired by relationships. It’s exciting to think that with the two, we’ll be able to speak to not only individual personality traits, but give insights into how characters might relate to each other.

In addition to Myers-Briggs, there are tons of other established tests, as shown in the “Examples” section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personality_test and in the “Personality Tests” section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tests

The challenge for us is going to be in finding a test whose backing methods and data are both comprehensive and either open-sourced or with a reasonable licensing agreement. Preferably we’ll find some sort of third-party provider who already has an established software API we can integrate with, so that we don’t have to reinvent that particular wheel.

        It’s great to see so…

      • Give us suggested image size for the cover image.

I added a few that expanded to the page width, forcing the height to expand into the Attributes and Character Notes area. The attributes then became unusable, because it brought up photo options when clicked. The Character Notes area was unreadable, because it appears to have a transparent text background.

Thanks for the details on how the cover images are behaving, and how you’d prefer them to be.

We’re planning to get a better sense of how people are actually utilizing Character profiles, and what additional features we may be adding there, before we make a final decision on the proportions & dimensions that will work best for cover images moving forward.

We’d like for them to be a useful and colorful way to add personality to Characters, but want to be careful they don’t overpower that valuable “above the fold” screen real estate.

Once we get that nailed down, we’ll make it more clear in the interface what’s expected here, along with adding lots of other goodies we’re working on for our file upload & image search tools.

As to reports of tall images “overflowing” their container and overlapping attributes, this sounds like a bug in some browser /…

        • Add Timelines

We know that keeping track of time is important to planning stories. The thing about time, is that it's really really small AND it's really really big.

How should we approach implementing timelines in StoryShop? What things are most important for you to keep track of, time-wise? Character's lifelines, trans-dimensional multiverse intersections?

Thank you for all the great ideas & input so far on timelines!

We can all see from the vote tally that this is among the most popular wish list items. This makes it clear we should soon invest some time trying to better map out how the feature might fit within StoryShop as it’s taking shape.

Depending on how complex and resource-intensive the solution we come up with ends up being, it may make sense to provide a short-term bridge wherein we accommodate basic importing and display of timelines from third-party apps like Aeon Timeline.

Great ideas, everyone! Keep ‘em coming, and watch out for timelines to appear on the horizon. Because of the way we’re building StoryShop “in the cloud”, all these great features in the works will just start magically appearing in the app as they become ready.

          • Allow character profile exports

We're looking into adding this. Outlines are more straightforward to export than character profiles, by nature. What do you think a useful format for exporting Character profiles will be? Would you want to be able to export a single character, or all characters in a given world?

            • Allow exporting of elements

We're looking into adding this. What do you think a useful format for exporting element cards will be? Would you want to be able to export a single card, all cards in a world, or a particular subset of information?

              • Add Mindmaps

Mindmaps are a great way to visually represent an outline structure. There are a lot of great tools for mindmapping out there - should StoryShop have its own?
